Hair stuff and more

These are some pics I found from my mom's camera this week. I about died when I saw this and remembered how tiny sis was. These are some of the few that really show her size. Can't believe she is 6 months old and in the 50 percentile!

So...I am not sure if I am annoying you or not, but this is my blog after all and darn it...this book is good.
I will say it again....please read it. I've changed my stance though, even if you know not a single soul that has adopted transracially, you should still read this. If you are white, read it.
I've had a lot of conversations about race, racism and prejudice with so many people over the last 6+ years....that's why I am saying this. We all need this.

I am just shocked at how eye opening this has been. Black Baby White Hands has taught me so much and I am forever indebted to this man that so courageously wrote his story.

And for the hair title...another friend who has adopted pointed out these sites for hair care and WHOA! I'd better get to practicing, huh? I got nothing on these ladies...just look at Sadie's puffs.

Happy New Year everyone! Watch for a post later this week for pics of Emery's finalization!

Woot woot, we'll finally be complete...The Shockley 6! Sounds fabulous, huh?

Ok did Sadie's hair grow that much in 6 months or is that picture with her in your lap was it just curled up? Really working with L's hair last few days still real patchy but I'm pulling it into pony's. Still have not found the perfect product for her hair. Man busy life right now for Shockley's excited for you all!

I read the book when we were working on our first homestudy, but I dont' remember too much of it. Now I'll either have to dig it out of the basement or get it from the library.

I'll also have to check out the hair sites. Auntie E wants to braid Michelle's hair, but I won't let her until she's older. Braiding hair too tight on babies/kids can cause permanent hair damage (and is a contributing factor to the astounding number of black women wearing wigs). So far, her puffs are working out pretty well :)

Rebekah, thanks for the comment! Glad you have the book. Not sure if it's because of the boys' age or what? But this book and its' timing has been wonderful for me!

I have heard the same thing about braids and doing hair, but I still feel the need to be prepared when the girls are ready for it! Have you read "Its All Good Hair"? That was a great book for me and I need to pull it out again!

Hey-- I just smile every time I read your blog! I was filled with joy (as I know you were) seeing the pics of Emery's finalization court day on FB! Thank you so much for commenting on our blog (I didn't see it until today as they are sent to a different e-mail address--oops!). I am sure to consult you/your blog on adoption issues, hair care, etc. Thanks again for being such an advocate for us all! And yes, it is so special to share this with my sister-- especially once we have all our babes home!
