"So promise me you'll never forget...that you aren't an accident or an incident...you are a gift to the world, a divine work of art, signed by God. You were deliberately planned, specifically gifted, and lovingly positioned on this earth...Flooded by emotion, overcome by pride, the Starmaker turns to us, one by one, and says, 'You are my child. I love you dearly.'" Max Lucado, God Thinks You're Wonderful

Dear Receptionists,

I want to thank you for your smiles as I checked into your office this morning. You have no idea how I anticipated your reaction to me and my children. Thank you for telling me how beautiful my daughters are. What you don't know is that this week has been full of unsolicited disrespectful parenting advice from black women in random stores. Oh how we needed your warm reception of us. Thank you for telling me you love their hair and that I do a good job taking care of their curls. What you don't know is that this does just as much for my girls to be accepted by other African Americans as it does for their white mama. You could've just as easily just stared at us and talked about us when we left...but you didn't. You had the heart to talk to me about this rather taboo topic... white parents raising black children. I need you to know how you fed my soul today.

In this sinful world where young black boys are being murdered and their killers claim self defense and walk, and where black people are rude to me because they disapprove...I cannot help but constantly plead that Jesus carry us through. I live for Jesus alone. I don't have to worry about others approval...but I sure do want it for my kids. Sweet receptionists, I need you to know that your smiles, gentle hearts and encouraging words gave me great hope that we in fact are moving forward.

This post about made me cry. I'm glad you received affirmation today. I'm sad that people have been rude to you :(. You are loving and parenting beautiful children...God-created human beings!! That in itself should be respected :). (((Hugs)))

Oh,Molly what a wonderful post!!! I am so sorry that you endured such hurt.. Just know that they inflicted pain on Jesus! You are a wondeful mother who is raising some pretty amazing children! They will make history one day doing something great! Dont let the views of a few people discourage you! YOu are doing exactly what our father in hevean wants you to do!!!
I am amazed at the mother you are.. I learn so much about parenting my own daughter (we are both African American) from you! So, this black mama is learning a lot about hair and how to teach my child about Jesus..from a white mama! :) (through the blogging and facebook world!)
Take care and prayers for you!

I love what you stand for...so proud of you. I want my kids to be color blind because it truly is so senseless to live any other way. Keep it up!

Very touching pose, Molly. I am sorry some people are so ignorant. You can teach them so much about LOVE but they are so blinded by color they can not see beyond colors. Praying for you and for the world.

Happened upon your blog and really appreciate this post - particularly after coming home from the Created for Care conference this weekend and dealing with the hard topic of transracial adoptions. Would you allow this to be reposted on We Are Grafted In (www.wearegraftedin.com)? Let me know what you think.

Molly, that is so sweet. Although I'm sorry for what you've experienced, I could definitely see your heart in those words. God bless you!

That little girl will be beautiful, I resembled her a lot as a child. She will lighten up quite a bit though. I'm 15 now ad its what happened. You are getting better at their hair. Try Doo Gro and it will make their hair longer, keep it from falling out and will also help in the prevention of lice. Stay away from the French Braids too much, it will pull their hair out but ponytails and barretts help it to grow, don't place it too tight. I'm not sure if you read this but if you do, I'm glad to say i stumbled across your blog. You have beautiful children, all of them and you have been truly blesses.

May God continue to bless you all,
A girl from Palmdale, CA
