Loved

Today my heart can't help but be caught up in what is going on with our agency this weekend.

Today 18 women are gathering together to be celebrated as mothers. They come together with the common bond of choosing to place their child with a family. They come from different situations and have different stories, but find comfort in knowing they are not alone in their grief.

As we gathered small gifts for these women, I was continually overcome with the reality that this is why God brought me here. I couldn't believe that more; that God called us to domestic adoption not only to become parents, but so that we could love on and share Jesus with their birth families. What an honor it is to be able to show them our love and appreciation as Mother's Day approaches and they are without their child.

Part of our gift was a note to each mother. It's a difficult task to express your heart on paper to someone you've never met, but I couldn't help but think of how much I love these birth mothers. It's just how to get that across to them without freaking them out! I had been putting off writing this note for weeks.

It just happened that yesterday Owen picked out one of my favorite books for me to read to him. I always cry when reading this book. It's called "God Thinks You're Wonderful" by Max Lucado.

Here is just an excerpt that I want so badly for each of these birth mothers to hear,
"So promise me you'll never forget...that you aren't an accident or an incident...you are a gift to the world, a divine work of art, signed by God. You were deliberately planned, specifically gifted, and lovingly positioned on this earth... Flooded by emotion, overcome by pride, the Starmaker turns to us, one by one, and says, 'You are my child. I love you dearly.' You have captured the heart of God. He cannot bear to live without you. Let a tear appear on your cheek, and he is there to wipe it."

Please pray with me tonight and tomorrow for these women who have given so selflessly for the sake of their child. Pray for these women who wanted nothing more than to be able to parent their child, but knew they could not. Pray for them that there is healing during this retreat and that they will find great comfort in being together and being celebrated.
Remember Birth Mother's Day, it is the Saturday before Mothers Day!

Sister, I don't know what to say...you are so much better than I am at expressing your feelings. Just want you to know I am proud of you, and I am so glad that God is teaching me throughout each adoption...not only about the adoption process but about our responsibility to love on, to care for, to encourage and most importantly to show Jesus' love to these amazing women. Thanks for sharing with me....love you!

I just wanted you to know that I needed to read your blog today. My husband and I are in the middle of the adoption journey and have been turned down by an adoption agency for a reason I'll not discuss. We were so torn about our decision to adopt that we honestly thought for a moment that we had gotten the wrong message from God. That we had made a mistake in thinking He wanted us to adopt transracially or adopt at all. Reading your blog has gotten me praying again about what God wants us to do next. Thank you for being so honest in your blog!

Kristin, I don't know if you'll be checking these comments, but there is a poem you need to read on our adoption blog. Check it out, even if you are not in Oklahoma, this poem will speak to you. Click on the Promote OK adoption button or link on my side bar. Glad you're here!

Molly,
Thank you for refering me to that poem. I have 2 bio. children and I've read that poem before and always thought that it only applied to those who didn't yet have children. But when I read it this morning, it had new meaning to me. It made more sense to me and I now see it can apply to anyone hoping to hear a Word from God! I think what made this situation so difficult for my husband and I was that we felt as if we were serving God by adopting and for the agency to deny us this opportunity to follow Him was devestating. But now we realize that we are still following Him by waiting for Him to show us the next step. Thank you for your interest in me!
